Eeek . . . . Christmas is just around the corner . . .

and I cannot believe it. Even though it has been a long year, some parts have gone amazingly fast. Christmas is one that I feel will be here in a blink of eye. Friday we started the decorating. I am not sure how long it will take, but I'm excited about having a jump start this year.  This gives me Thanksgiving meets Christmas vibe.  I made the grateful out of baltic birch and I am not sure if I want to paint them or leave them unpainted.  Sometimes I really like the slight burn markings from the laser that the wood takes on. I may do some a few different ways and see which one(s) I take to. Materials used: baltic birch wood. I have been firing up my laser and here are some other things I have made in the past few weeks.  My daughter has loved gnomes since she was about 2 years old. I remember her not wanting to let go of a few gnomes that were in the dollar bin at Target, back in approximately 2006. So I bought them and boy did she play with them all the way up until...

Happy Halloween

A day late but still, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I used my laser to make this Addams Family Porch sign that I got from a blog, agirlandagluegun.com (click  here ). Check her out - her tutorial includes a free cut file!  Here is the side profile. I'm not sure if you can see the engraving. I used 1/8" MDF and this one measures approx. 11.5 x 16. I used my passthrough on my Glowforge to do this size. I love that I have the option to make bigger projects when I want. Other materials I used was primer, acrylic paint,  and some acrylic glitter paint. I love the way it turned out and can't wait to use it again next year . . . or I might just leave it up in my studio. 😳😂 There are many seasons going on in my space right now, and it drives my kids crazy, so I leave it. 😂 I've been working on some Christmas items and I plan to have a post in the up coming days. #iplaywithfire

I have been busy making things on my laser. I know I say it all the time, but it is so much fun!  I have listed some items at  MaddieMarrs.com , with plans to have a few more items listed in the next few days.  I have decided to call this ornament The Not made for Snowflakes snowflake. This is approximately 4" x 4" and 1/4 thick; and natural hemp cord added for hanging on the tree. It could be cut and a regular christmas tree hook wire can be used, but the wire hook is not included.                                   2020 Giving the Middle Finger: and it feels about right. lol  This keychain has been added in my shop, but I plan to add the ornament version soon. It's done on wood and sealed. I think I may do some in other colors, but for now I have the black front and back with white numbers & the white front and back with black numbers.          ...

A quick and simple DIY.

Last year my sister came to visit and gave me this cute envelope holder decor. I love it, but when I was going to hang it up, I noticed a lot of pieces that were hung were brown, bronze and just dark. 😳😂 Basically, something about it had to give. I didn't want to spend too much time with this make-over, and I wanted to make sure that if I changed my mind that I'd have no problem changing it out. 😊 I went through some scrap paper I had on hand and grabbed my double sided tape.   I forgot to take a photo of me tracing the outline of the envelope to the paper, but it was right side up. It could be traced either ways, but I find it saves me some time and, at times stress from having to trim around the edges if the sides aren't the same. I cut the paper. make sure it fits then add double sided tape  I didn't really want to make it permanent, bc I might change it out later, but I might distress the edges a bit. I find it easier to file the sides with a small nail file that...

I love making things on my laser . . .

I can't stop guys!  I know I haven't been posting as much as I should, but boy I promise you, I do craft and use my laser often. I literally look forward to getting up and getting ready, just so I can jump on my laser or paint and put together something I cut. I will be uploading some more pics to my Instagram account. I can be found @maddiemarrs2020. Here are some projects I worked on for July 4th.                  The banner was made on 1/8" baltic birch wood. I used acrylic paints to paint the pieces other than the stars. For the stars, I used some silver foil leaf paper for a little pop.  The Solo cup and marker holder - Done in 1/8" baltic birch and stained with blue stain and engraves. I currently have some listed in my Etsy shop. Not only is this fun to add to any event, its a great way to make sure your guests mark up their cups. Hopefully, one never has to lose another cup at a gathering again. ha...

Instagram - What?

Short post but I just wanted to take a minute to let you know what's going on. I know I am late in the game, but I just joined Instagram.   I have zero followers so I have lots of work to do, but that's probably bc, one, I just started this, two, I have no posts yet. lol 😂😂 I think it will be a better fit for me than my Facebook page, I'm just not really feeling it, other than being inspired and learning from my awesome crafting groups. 😁 You can find me on Instagram @maddiemarrs2020. -Stay Safe and Craft Away.

Cornhole anyone?

I've been working on a few Father's Day gifts. Here is one, it is a desk size corn hole. Oh my gosh, it's so fun. On this project I used Baltic Birch. I did sand the board and primed it before cutting. Next time I will also paint the board before cutting. I painted the pieces with some blue paint I had on hand, used gold leaf foil around the hole opening and MasterTouch Gold paint where it is engraved. The laser file I purchased did come with the cuts for the tossers to be cut from wood, but my husband asked if I would make some fabric bag tossers. I couldn't tell him no, so I made some and they are adorable. I didn't have dried corn on hand, but my husband remembered we had popcorn seeds from the popcorn maker. - bonus that they were expired, so there was no guilt using them. 😅  This cornhole is approx. 10.75 x 8. I think it is going to be a great addition to his office.  I am working on adding a few corn holes in my shop, so ke...

Happy Mother's Day!

I made these wood florals and signs for my mom & my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. All these items are made my me, although I didn't design the files, I did cut them on my Glowforge.  One mason jar is made with a clear acrylic front with metallic gold paint in the engraved areas of the jar for some added detail (but looks great without too) and the other is stained wood. Two completely different styles and yet, I think they are both lovely.  I've been trying my hand at Inkscape and was finally able to do a knock out. lol The struggle was real, but I'm happy I was able to be able to accomplish that, because now our moms have these sweet signs. Here are some additional florals I've been working on. If you are interested in an unpainted floral DIY, please visit maddiemarrs.com. You may also email me at maddiemarrs@yahoo.com if you would like to inquire about something not yet listed.  Enjoy and Happy Mother's Day to all!  ...

Valentine Donation Update

Hey y'all! I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped contribute to this donation. The total was $198.00, but I know every dollar counts, so I just made it a nice round $200.00. I am thinking of bringing it back for Easter. What do you think? Here is a screenshot of the donation sent. I'm in the middle of transitioning from Valentine's Day to St. Patrick's Day, and I'm starting with my chocolates! ha-ha I got me some gold coins and Rolo's from Target. So those are my go to chocolate snacks for the next month until I switch it up again for Easter. I mean it is highly possible that I may have started getting into the Easter spirit a wee bit, and that there may or may not be a bag of Cadbury chocolate eggs hidden somewhere in my studio. 😜 I really do need to stop with all my snacking and get cracking on decorating my mantel. It has been bare since the end of last week. My family hasn't said anything to me, so I'm guessing they just...

Handmade Valentine - Mail Out

Here are some of the handmade Valentine's getting ready to head out this week A big Thank You to all that have purchased some. All proceeds will be going to Dallas Dog Rescue, Rehab, Reform. You can learn more about them at www.dallasdogrrr.org or click  HERE ! It's not too late to order! If you look at the shop tab on my blog page, you can now buy online at www.maddiemarrs.com or click HERE .  You know, I'm just not into the expensive side of Valentines, but I do love Valentines for a lot of other reasons. I'm more into: the colors (I love pink and red together), textures in paper and decor, lace, doilies, the smells. I love the smell of construction paper that is used to make paper hearts and paper chains. I love the over the top decor you see on Hallmark Valentine shows. Yup, I could watch that all day just for the decor, colors and the baking. Ha, but seriously . . . I do enjoy giving my husband and kids treats for Valentine's, but I k...
