DIY Christmas Gift Boxes

I have decided to spring clean my studio. My room is so bad. I almost feel ashamed of myself.

Unfortunately, this also means that I will have to let a lot of things go. Ugh, I'm never prepared to do this. This is because I always swear that one day I will need "it". I be darned if I have had some things for 10+ plus years, never to be used. Then one day I get rid of it and guess who all of a sudden needs it? Some might say that I have a crafting issue(s), and they may not be lying. 😅

I love to repurpose things. Sometimes things sit here a little longer than they should, so I have decided to just to jump in and start repurposing boxes. I figured I could have them on hand and ready to go when something comes up like a birthday, a holiday or some kind of special occasion. I decided to start with the AirPod boxes. My husband knows me so well and actually gifted me these boxes and adding to my craft hoarding issues instead of just throwing them away and helping me. 😂

These are actually great steady boxes. They needed a few coats of paint because I didn't feel like sanding them down and one side had the store stickers. I was cool with this, I just added several more layers of paint. If you don't want the paint to peel you could seal them. I have some scratching on my black box, but I kinda like it. It seems to be happening in the right places and anything with the AirPods information is covered up - so again, it works for me. 😊

I had a tablecloth on hand that had this cute lace square patterns. I cut a square out and it fit nicely on the box. If I cut it to the thick square line it would fit perfect. But for the black box I decided to fold down the scalloped edges. I used Loctite All Purpose Glue to hold it down. It dried clear and did the job.

I put some wax paper and some rubber bands around the lace portion to hold it down for just a bit so it could get a better hold.

I added some black paper using double sided tape and attaching it to the inside bottom of the box - I liked the contrast and it kinda cleaned up the space. I didn't get a picture of the inside of the blue box, but I used a Christmas patterned paper. It is definitely fine without it too, I mean minus the paint splatter I got inside. haha I left it that way for that hand-made feel, plus I will most likely add tissue paper when I decide to.

I added some double-sided tape to the sides of one of the boxes and dipped each side into glitter.  You can easily skip this step if you aren't a fan of glitter.

I think they came out lovely.

I had so much fun decorating and repurposing these boxes and it really is a fun way to recycle items where and when I can. I can't wait to use these - I'm thinking adding a gift card or a piece of jewelry maybe?! I'm just excited I have a couple of gift boxes ready to go this Christmas. 😀

Until next time . . .  I hope you stay crafty & happy.

Can I laser on glass?

Conversation with myself:  Can I laser on glass? Well, I don't know, I haven't tried.  😂  It was my first attempt at lasering on glass. Next time I think I will make some minor setting adjustments. Depending on the design, I may want the image to be a bit clearer/sharper. But, since this design is a bit cute, spooky and going to be used as Halloween decor in our home, it works. The black roses were made using my laser, wood with acrylic paint. I know this is short but I hope it was sweet.  I'm not sure where October went, but I wish you and yours a fun and safe Halloween. Thank you for stopping by and,  Until next time, Maddie

Gold Leafing a Boutonniere

It was my first time to do a boutonniere and I thought I would try adding some gold leaf foil to a few roses and see how they turned out. They came out very nice, I thought.  Some Supplies used:    Add the adhesive where you want. You can put as much or little as you'd like.  I was going for a bit of a drip on one of them.  I played around adding some gold leaf foil to a few leaves.  It was a big rose and a rather heavy one at that, so I decided to just do the one and leave the other rose out. It would have been too bulky. Using some floral tape, floral wire and some hot glue I put the boutonniere together. For a soft more vintage look I added some vintage lace I had on hand and finished it off with some ribbon.   This boutonniere was a hit and it was a fun piece to do.  Thanks for popping in, Maddie

Are we Sleighin' or Slayin' ?

I hope you are having a great start to this new year! As I was putting up Christmas I thought about how I had not shown this cute wood round sign. I love that it can go up in October and stay up through Christmas. This sign gives me all the Hallmark feelings.  I've been contemplating making a few of these to list. 🤔 I will get back to you on that.  Speaking of Christmas - Anyone feel like it just zoomed right by at a high rate of speed this year? I totally did.   Materials used: Wood, acrylic paint, gold, green and red foil paper and some rope and ribbon for hanging. Everything cut on my laser.   Thank you for swingin' by. Until next time, Maddie
